Holliday, Rockies seek fifth straight win
Jul 5, 2008 - 1:08 PM Florida (44-42) at Colorado (36-51), 8:05 pm EDTDENVER (Ticker) -- The Colorado Rockies have figured out that the best way to get over a losing skid is to start a winning streak.
Matt Holliday and the Rockies look for their fifth straight victory Saturday as they host the Florida Marlins in the third contest of a four-game series.
Holliday homered twice and drove in five runs as Colorado erased a nine-run deficit and scored in all but one inning en route to a wild 18-17 triumph over Florida on Friday.
Ryan Spilborghs also hit two home runs Friday for the Rockies, who trailed the entire game until Chris Ianetta's walk-off single in the ninth to cap the club's biggest comeback in franchise history. Colorado had lost its previous eight contests before its current winning streak.
The reigning National League batting champion, Holliday is hitting .339 with 12 home runs and 45 RBI this season.
Rookie Ryan Tucker (2-2, 6.84 ERA) will attempt to contain Holliday and the rest of the Rockies' red-hot offense, which scored 24 runs over the first two games of the series - both comeback wins. The 21-year-old righthander is making just his sixth career start.
He will be opposed by Jorge De La Rosa (2-4, 6.70), who was tagged for six runs and 11 hits over five innings during Monday's 15-8 loss to the San Diego Padres.
