Streaking Tigers attempt to end Slowey's unbeaten streak

DETROIT (Ticker) -- Coming off one of their most thrilling wins, the surging Detroit Tigers may need all of their momentum to derail a sizzling Kevin Slowey.

The Tigers will look to post their fourth straight win and hand Slowey his first loss in over a month when they begin a four-game set against the Minnesota Twins on Thursday.

Detroit moved to a season-high two games over .500 on Wednesday with an 8-6 victory over Cleveland. The Tigers rallied from a six-run, sixth-inning deficit that ended with Miguel Cabrera's two-run, walk-off shot in the ninth. The win was the Tigers' 22nd triumph over their last 30 games.

To extend that stretch, Detroit will need to solve Slowey (6-6, 3.78 ERA), who is 4-0 over his last five turns after starting the season 2-6. The righthander rebounded from a five-run, second in Saturday's 9-6 victory over Cleveland, holding the Indians to one hit thereafter over his six innings.

Slowey, who saw his 18 1/3-inning scoreless streak come to an end , allowed five hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Even with that sluggish effort, he has yielded just 24 hits and four walks over his last 35 innings while crafting a 2.06 ERA.

Detroit will counter with Kenny Rogers (6-6, 4.70), who will try to end his pattern of alternating wins and losses over his last four starts. The 43-year-old lefthander surrendered four runs and six hits over 7 2/3 innings in Friday's 4-1 loss at Seattle.

However, Rogers has been strong against the Twins, going 15-9 with a 2.98 ERA over 29 career starts and 21 relief appearances.
