Rays seek back-to-back wins vs. Blue Jays
Jul 19, 2008 - 10:15 AM Toronto (47-49) at Tampa Bay (56-39), 6:10 pm EDTST. PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) -- It appears the All-Star break came at the perfect time for the Tampa Bay Rays.
After losing seven straight before the All-Star Game, the Rays look for back-to-back victories when they host the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.
Ben Zobrist blasted a go-ahead, two-run home run Friday as Tampa Bay snapped its skid with a 2-1 triumph over Toronto. The win improved the Rays to 33-7 in their last 40 home games.
It will be difficult to continue that trend against Blue Jays starter Roy Halladay (11-6, 2.71 ERA), who leads the majors in complete games (7) and innings pitched (146 1/3).
The All-Star righthander, who has won his last three starts and eight of nine decisions, is looking to become the third American League pitcher to reach the 12-win mark. Cleveland's Cliff Lee and Anaheim's Joe Saunders are already there.
Tampa Bay will counter with Matt Garza (7-5, 3.96), who was roughed up for seven runs and 11 hits over five innings during last Saturday's 8-4 setback to the Cleveland Indians.
