Lackey hopes to keep rolling vs. Yankees
Aug 3, 2008 - 6:13 AM LA Angels (69-41) at NY Yankees (60-50), 1:05 pm EDTBRONX, New York (Ticker) -- John Lackey seeks to win his fourth consecutive start Sunday when the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim face the New York Yankees.
Lackey (9-2, 2.93 ERA) tossed a complete game in last Sunday's 6-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox. He yielded two runs on two hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
The 29-year-old righthander has posted an 8-1 record over 10 starts during the past two months. Lackey will have to contain three-time MVP Alex Rodriguez and the rest of the Yankees' high-powered offense.
Rodriguez delivered one of New York's four home runs Saturday as the Yankees ended the Angels' five-game winning streak, 8-2. The defending American League MVP, Rodriguez is batting .325 with 24 blasts and 66 RBI.
New York, which is 2-4 on its current seven-game homestand, will send righthander Darrell Rasner (5-8, 4.92) to the mound.
The 27-year-old Rasner has lost four of his previous five decisions.
