Dugout scuffle behind Brewers

Aug 6, 2008 - 10:10 AM Milwaukee (63-51) at Cincinnati (52-62) 12:35 p.m. EDT

CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- The dugout altercation between Prince Fielder and Manny Parra appears to be behind the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Brewers try to claim back-to-back wins on Wednesday when they take on the Cincinnati Reds.

Fielder, apparently tired of his team's recent slide, shoved Parra twice in the dugout after the lefthander was roughed up for six runs and four hits in six innings during Monday's 6-3 setback to the Reds - Milwaukee's eighth loss in its previous 11 games.

The 24-year-old first baseman apologized on Tuesday before hitting his 26th home run - a two-run blast - during the Brewers' 8-1 drubbing against Cincinnati.

"That's just something that happened in the moment," Fielder said of the scuffle. "I can't take it back. I could have handled it better. But I don't apologize for the full meaning behind it and the fire."

Manager Ned Yost attributed the incident to "competitive issues" rather than an anger problem, noting that there will not be any disciplinary action.

"They had a disagreement or misunderstanding," Yost said. "It's not anything that's going to linger or continue. Prince has apologized, and we've talked to Manny."

Jeff Suppan (6-7, 4.75 ERA) returns to the mound looking to build some momentum from one of his best starts. Suppan, 33, pitched seven scoreless innings, surrendering five hits and three walks en route to a 9-0 victory against the Atlanta Braves on Friday.

Homer Bailey (0-5, 7.55) counters for the Reds hoping to earn his first victory since April 30 when he was a member of Class AAA Louisville. Cincinnati has lost each of Bailey's seven starts in the majors this season and the 22-year-old righthander allowed five runs and seven hits in only two innings during Friday's 5-2 loss to the lowly Washington Nationals.
