Dodgers aim to continue dominance of Giants
Aug 9, 2008 - 11:49 AM Los Angeles (58-57) at San Francisco (48-66) 9:05 p.m. EDTSAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers try to continue their hold over the rival San Francisco Giants when the teams continue their three-game series on Saturday.
Brad Penny allowed just one hit and one run in five innings in his first start since returning from the disabled list with tendinitis in his right shoulder to lead the Dodgers to a 6-2 victory during the series opener on Friday.
The win was Los Angeles' fourth in the last six games against the Giants and pulled the team to within one-half game of the Arizona Diamondbacks for first place in the National League West Division. It was also the Dodgers' 17th victory in the last 23 contests at AT&T Park.
Hiroki Kuroda (6-8, 4.21 ERA) hopes to duplicate Penny's performance when he takes the mound on Saturday.
The Japanese import, Kuroda was pounded for seven runs and nine hits in just 3 2/3 innings against the Giants on June 28. He bounced back in his last start, surrendering only one run in 7 1/3 innings en route to a 4-2 victory against the Diamondbacks last Saturday.
Kevin Correia (2-6, 5.53), who earned his first win since April 10th when he opposed Kuroda on June 28, toes the rubber for the Giants after suffering a hard-luck loss in his previous outing. Correia allowed only two runs and three hits in 6 1/3 innings, but endured the loss during Sunday's 4-1 setback to the San Diego Padres.
