Jackson makes Indians debut vs. Orioles
Aug 14, 2008 - 10:02 AM Baltimore (57-62) at Cleveland (54-65) 7:05pm ETCLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Although he wasn't the centerpiece of the Cleveland Indians' four-player windfall from the CC Sabathia deal last month, Zach Jackson will give his new team its first look at what they received in exchange for their ace.
Jackson makes his Indians debut on Thursday when Cleveland eyes a series win against the Baltimore Orioles.
Acquired along with power-hitting prospect Matt LaPorta and two other players in exchange for Sabathia, Jackson will be making his first start since 2006 after appearing twice in relief for the Brewers this season. He will be the first player from the trade to appear in a game for Cleveland.
The lefthander will replace Paul Byrd in the rotation. Byrd was traded to Boston in a waiver deal on Tuesday. Jackson went 3-1 with a 4.05 ERA in four starts and four relief appearances at Class AAA Buffalo prior to Wednesday's recall.
He'll be opposed by Daniel Cabrera (8-7, 4.78 ERA), who will be seeking a win in his second straight start.
The erratic righthander - whose 71 walks put him on pace to lead the American League in that category for the third consecutive season - worked six scoreless frames in Saturday's 9-0 victory over Texas, allowing four hits and walking three others.
