Reineke gets first career start vs. Phillies

SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Talk about being thrust into the fire. San Diego Padres rookie Chad Reineke makes his first career start on Saturday against a Philadelphia Phillies team looking to break out of its offensive rut.

Reineke, who was acquired in the deal that sent lefthander Randy Wolf to Houston, will make a spot start in place of the injured Chris Young.

Reineke went 5-9 with a 4.41 ERA in 20 games - 19 starts with Class AAA Round Rock. The 26-year-old righthander allowed two runs and five hits in six innings of his lone start with Class AAA Portland.

He hopes the Phillies don't find their offensive groove. The Phillies are fourth in runs scored, but have been scuffling. Philadelphia, which trails New York (66-56) by one game in the National League East, has scored 11 runs in its last four games.

On Friday, Jamie Moyer tossed seven scoreless innings and Pat Burrell homered as the Phillies snapped a four-game skid with a 1-0 victory.

Philadelphia hands the ball to Kyle Kendrick (10-6, 4.74 ERA), who was rocked for seven runs and nine hits in 3 1/3 innings of an 8-6 loss to Los Angeles on Monday. It was the shortest outing in nearly two months for Kendrick, who had his two-game winning streak snapped.
