Jackson, Indians to take on Meche, Royals

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Newcomer Zach Jackson will take the mound Wednesday when the Cleveland Indians go for their third straight win against the visiting Kansas City Royals.

Jackson (0-0, 5.19 ERA) was part of the package of players the Indians received from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for CC Sabathia in July and has made one start since being recalled from the minors on Thursday.

The 25-year-old lefthander allowed three runs and eight hits in five innings against Baltimore, walking one and striking out one. He did not factor in the decision.

The Royals will counter with ace Gil Meche (10-9, 4.13). The righthander has not suffered a loss since July 2 and is coming off a solid outing Friday at New York in which he allowed one run and struck out eight in six innings, though he did not factor in the decision.

Meche had his worst start of the season against Cleveland on April 22, allowing eight runs in 3 1/3 innings to suffer a loss. But in two starts against the Indians since, he has allowed three runs in 12 total frames.

Kansas City is 2 1/2 games behind Cleveland for fourth place in the AL Central and has lost 10 of its last 12.
