Orioles aim to snap seven-game skid vs. Oakland

Sep 6, 2008 - 10:19 AM Oakland (64-77) at Baltimore (63-77) 1:05 p.m. EDT

BALTIMORE (Ticker) -- The Baltimore Orioles aim to snap a season high seven-game losing streak on Saturday in the opener of a day-night doubleheader with the Oakland Athletics.

Manager Dave Trembley, who had his option picked up for 2009, hopes Garrett Olson (8-7, 6.53 ERA) can give him a better effort than what he saw from his pitchers in an 11-2 loss on Friday.

Orioles pitchers walked six hitters - four with the bases loaded - in an eight-run eighth inning. The lone hit was a grand slam off the bat of Rajai Davis.

"I don't have any magic formula, I don't have any catch phrase, I don't have any quick fix," Trembley said. "You have to be able to throw it over the plate. It's that simple."

Unfortunately for Trembley, things don't figure to get any better with Olson, who is 0-2 with a 11.81 ERA in his last four starts. The lefthander was rocked for six runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings of a 7-4 loss to Boston on Monday.

He faces an Oakland team that snapped a four-game skid by scoring more than six runs for the first time in 41 games. The A's counter with Greg Smith (6-14, 4.23), who has one win in his last 11 starts.
