Diamondbacks running out of time
Sep 15, 2008 - 1:52 PM San Francisco (68-81) at Arizona (72-76), 9:40 p.m. EDTPHOENIX (Ticker) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks' playoff chances are dimming by the day.
Arizona hopes to put a stop to its free fall when it hosts the San Francisco Giants on Monday.
The Diamondbacks lost two out of three to the Cincinnati Reds over the weekend - both defeats in extra innings - and have won just once in their last eight games.
The struggles have dropped Arizona a season-high 4 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers (77-72) in the National League West with just two weeks left in the season.
Doug Davis (6-8, 4.53 ERA) hopes to get the Diamondbacks back on track. The lefthander pitched well against the Giants last Tuesday, allowing two runs over 5 1/3 innings.
San Francisco will counter with Brad Hennessey (1-1, 9.64), who will make his second start of the season. The righthander, who started the year in the bullpen, gave up one run over six innings but did not factor in the decision against Arizona on Wednesday.
The Diamondbacks, who scored a total of six runs against the Reds over the weekend, have scored four runs or fewer in each of their last 11 games.
