Red Sox, Yankees close out season with Game 2
Sep 28, 2008 - 2:20 PM NY Yankees at Boston (2ND GAME), 7:35 p.m. EDTBOSTON (Ticker) -- Despite a rainout on Saturday, the baseball world will not be cheated out of a New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox game.
With a game that has no implications on the standings, New York will close out its season at Boston in the second game of a day-night doubleheader.
The Yankees are ending a disappointing season that will have the team miss the playoffs for the first time since 1993.
Meanwhile, Boston is heading back to the playoffs for the fifth time in six years. The Red Sox will open the postseason on Wednesday at the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
The rival teams will most likely not be playing their top players in the season finale.
Sidney Ponson (8-5, 5.21 ERA) will take the mound for the Yankees, while Tim Wakefield (10-11, 4.24) will be on the hill for the Red Sox.
Ponson has lost both of his starts to Boston this season.
