Red Sox-Rays opener postponed
Apr 6, 2009 - 2:23 PM BOSTON (AP) -- Opening Day will have to wait another 24 hours in Boston.Monday's opener between the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays was postponed due to rain. It marks the first Red Sox home-opening postponement since 2003.
The game has been rescheduled for Tuesday at 4:05 p.m. Opening Day festivities will be held prior to the game.
"After consulting with our weather service and other professional meteorologists, it became apparent it would be extremely unlikely, if not impossible, that we could get a complete game in today so the decision was made to postpone until Tuesday," Red Sox president Larry Lucchino said.
Boston's Josh Beckett will be opposed by James Shields as the teams meet for the first time since the Rays eliminated the Red Sox in last year's American League Championship Series.
