Horford helps Hawks hold off Raptors

Jan 31, 2013 - 4:30 AM Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Al Horford scored the go-ahead basket with 21.5 seconds left to lift the Atlanta Hawks to a 93-92 win over the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday.

Hawks guard Kyle Korver canned a 3-pointer with just under two minutes left to tie the game at 89-89, but Alan Anderson knocked down a 3-pointer of his own to give the Raptors a 92-89 lead with 1:09 left.

Horford then knocked down a pair of free throws just under 11 seconds later to pull Atlanta within 92-91.

Korver grabbed John Lucas III's missed jumper at the other end and the Hawks quickly called timeout.

Following the timeout, Josh Smith took the inbounds pass, dribbled to his left, and then found Horford cutting to the basket and Horford slammed it home.

Raptors guard Kyle Lowry drove to the basket with 12.6 seconds left, but was rejected by Horford, and Toronto called a timeout to regroup.

Coming out of the timeout, DeMar DeRozan lost control of the ball, but Anderson came out of a small scrum with the ball and fired up a desperation jumper that hit the front of the rim.

DeRozan, though, grabbed the rebound, but was blocked by Horford, who threw the ball down the court as time expired.

Raptors head coach Dwane Casey felt that there were several missed calls in the final seconds and voiced his displeasure after the game.

"I'm tired of this. I'm tired of losing games because of missed calls at the end of the game. I know the league is going to come down on me but I don't care. These guys have fought their hearts out," Casey said. "It has happened too many times. I've been in this league 18 years and have never seen so many missed calls at the end of the game. We have great officials in this league and they are too good to miss calls and short change us like that. It's not right."

Also on Wednesday, the Raptors acquired forward Rudy Gay in exchange for point guard Jose Calderon, forward Ed Davis and a second round draft pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.

Over 42 games this season, Gay has averaged 17.2 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists. The 26-year-old Gay, who was the eighth overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, has produced career averages of 17.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest.

"This is the type of deal we have been looking for to take our team another step forward," said Raptors president and general manager Bryan Colangelo. "Rudy Gay is a dynamic wing that elevates our talent level significantly."

Calderon, an eight-year veteran from Spain, is averaging 11.1 points and 7.4 assists per game this season. Davis, Toronto's first-round selection in the 2010 draft, is averaging a career-high 9.7 points per game this season.

Toronto led 23-20 after the first quarter and took a 55-45 lead into the break. Atlanta, though, outscored the Raptors, 30-14, in the third frame to take a 75-69 lead into the final period.

"We got out and got some easy fastbreaks. When we're playing with a lot of energy and getting out on the break I think we're a better team," said Hawks guard Jeff Teague.

Horford finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds and Smith added 20 points and 11 boards ... The Hawks held Toronto to 38.8 percent shooting (33-for-85) from the field ... The Raptors outrebounded Atlanta, 52-36 ... DeRozan scored a game-high 23 points, Lucas III scored 19 and Anderson finished with 15.
