Hawks vie to continue dominance of Raptors

Jan 30, 2013 - 3:41 PM (Sports Network) - The Atlanta Hawks look to continue their domination of the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night when the two teams face off in Philips Arena.

The Hawks have won 13 of their last 16 against the Raptors and had been playing well until a loss Sunday night in New York against the Knicks. Atlanta had won three in a row before the setback to Carmelo Anthony's squad.

Anthony went off for 42 points against the Hawks, but Atlanta still had a chance late. Anthony converted a three-point play with 12.5 seconds left and Josh Smith missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have tied the game.

"It was a good look. It just didn't go down," said Smith.

Jeff Teague paced the Hawks with 27 points on 9-for-15 shooting. Smith had 20 points and Al Horford and Kyle Korver both cracked double figures against the Knicks.

Including the loss to the Knicks, the Hawks have averaged 108.8 ppg on 52.1 percent field-goal shooting. They've converted double-digit 3-pointers in all four, which tied a franchise record.

The Hawks are 17-5 when scoring 100-plus points and 8-1 when topping the 50- percent shooting mark.

The Raptors have lost two in a row, three of four and seven of nine. The most recent setback came at home against the Golden State Warriors on Monday. Golden State earned the 114-102 victory thanks to seven players in double figures.

With Kyle Lowry out of the lineup and Landry Fields not making it back on the floor after the half due to the flu, the Raptors couldn't stop the Warriors from shooting 53.5 percent from the field.

"We're a worn down team right now with the flu, injuries and all that stuff coming through,' said Raptors head coach Dwane Casey. "Again there are no excuses. This is the NBA, nobody's going to feel sorry for us. It's going to be that way the rest of the way so we got to strap it up, lace it up and be ready to go to work."

Aaron Gray had a career-high 22 points along with 10 rebounds. He logged a season-high 32 minutes and Monday marked the first time he led his team in scoring in 262 career games. Gray scored only 46 points in 22 games prior to Monday's outburst.

DeMar DeRozan added 21, Ed Davis had 12 and Jose Calderon, Alan Anderson and Terrance Ross scored 11 points apiece.

After two at home, the Raptors make this quick trip to Atlanta, then play three more in a row in Canada.

The Raptors have lost of eight of their last 11 in Atlanta.
