Curry's efforts push Warriors past Mavs in OT
Nov 20, 2012 - 6:09 AM Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Stephen Curry scored 20 of his 31 points in the fourth quarter and overtime as the Golden State Warriors outlasted the Dallas Mavericks, 105-101, at American Airlines Center.Curry also finished with nine assists and six rebounds, while Harrison Barnes and David Lee each contributed a double-double for the Warriors, who have won three of their last four.
Barnes had 20 points and 12 rebounds and Lee recorded 17 points and 19 boards.
"It was a team effort on the road tonight. We got stops and played aggressive on both ends of the floor tonight," Curry said. "We were able to make plays when they counted and that obviously gave us the win tonight."
O.J. Mayo dropped in 27 points to pace Dallas, which has lost five of seven.
Chris Kaman had 18 points and 17 rebounds, while Troy Murphy poured in 12 points off the bench in defeat.
Golden State entered the fourth quarter holding a 67-65 advantage, but after Carl Landry opened the frame with a layup, Murphy connected on a pair of 3- pointers around a Dominique Jones runner to put Dallas on top, 73-69.
The lead then exchanged hands five times over the final nine-plus minutes of the fourth quarter, with the last coming when Curry connected on a jumper for an 88-87 edge with less than three minutes left in regulation.
After Kaman made the front end of two free throws at the other end, Curry put Golden State back on top with a runner, but Darren Collison tied the game at 90-90 with 36 seconds left with a jumper from the left elbow.
Each team had chances to go on top in the closing seconds of the fourth, but Barnes and Klay Thompson each missed shots for the Warriors before Vince Carter's off-balance shot hit off the front of the rim to force overtime.
Golden State took early control of the extra period with seven straight points capped by Barnes' 3-pointer, but Mayo, who scored all 11 of the Mavericks' points in overtime, responded with a 7-0 run of his own to knot the game at 97-97.
Mayo then followed a pair of Curry free throws with a floater to tie game again before Curry drove into the lane and fed a pass to Lee under the net, who finished with a layup for the decisive basket with 32.7 seconds left.
Shawn Marion's jumper from the left baseline on Dallas' ensuing possession was no good and Golden State was able to close out the game at the foul line from there.
"He was very aggressive in the fourth quarter. He just kept getting into the paint and making plays and he can score and create shots for others," Mavericks guard Dahntay Jones said about Curry. "He really did a good job of keeping the team together in overtime."
The teams traded baskets over the opening minutes of action until the Warriors reeled off eight straight points to take a 15-7 lead with less than four minutes left in the first quarter.
The Mavericks responded with a 10-3 spurt to close the gap to one point, but they would get no closer and trailed, 23-20, entering the second quarter.
After Murphy opened the second with a 3-pointer to knot the game at 23-23, Golden State ripped off a 12-2 run to jump out to a double-digit lead, 35-25.
But Dallas scored the game's next eight points to close its gap to two points before taking a 43-38 deficit into the break.
The teams continued to trade blows in a third quarter that saw six lead changes, three ties and ended with the Warriors holding a 67-65 edge on Landry's three-point play in the closing seconds.
