Lee and Warriors take down Cavs
Nov 8, 2012 - 7:12 AM Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - David Lee filled the box score with 22 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and three steals, leading the Golden State Warriors to a healthy 106-96 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.Stephen Curry chipped in 21 points and six helpers, Carl Landry donated 19 points off the bench and Harrison Barnes added 14 for the Warriors, who have alternated wins and losses over their first five games.
"It was a thing of beauty the way we played offensively," Warriors coach Mark Jackson said. "I liked the pace especially. I thought out guys did a great job of reading and reacting while being unselfish all night long."
Cleveland, trying to build off a big road win against the Clippers on Monday, allowed Golden State to shoot 54 percent from the floor. Kyrie Irving had four of the Cavs' 11 makes from behind the arc and finished with 28 points, seven assists and six boards in the loss.
"We started out the first quarter really bad and we were just going uphill the whole entire game," Irving admitted.
Curry erupted for 15 points in the opening quarter, including seven during a 9-0 run that put the Warriors in front by 15 and sparked a 37-21 lead after 12 minutes.
The Cavs scored 12 straight points to cut their deficit to 48-43 on a Tristan Thomspon dunk with under five minutes left in the half, but a late Richard Jefferson 3-pointer gave the hosts a 59-51 cushion at the break.
Cleveland took its first lead when Dion Waiters drained a pullup jumper to break a 67-67 tie midway through the third, but the comeback apparently took too much out of the Cavs, who were outscored 17-4 over the final 5 1/2 minutes. Curry started the run with a floater, Jarrett Jack highlighted it with a three-point play, and Jefferson threw down a dunk in the final minute for an 85-74 advantage heading to the fourth.
The closest the Cavs got in the final frame was eight points.
