Cavs continue road trip at Golden State

Nov 7, 2012 - 4:18 PM (Sports Network) - The Golden State Warriors currently sit atop the Pacific Division standings and look to remain there when they return home tonight to host the Cleveland Cavaliers at Oracle Arena.

The Warriors, who lost their only game as the host this season last Friday versus Memphis, split a brief road trip against the Los Angeles Clippers and Sacramento Kings. In Monday's 94-92 loss at Sacramento, Stephen Curry's desperation heave bounced off the back rim and the Kings escaped with the win.

"They had great looks. They executed and just made shots," Warriors coach Mark Jackson said. "Like I told my guys, you don't win or lose the game on those last shot attempts."

Klay Thompson and David Lee scored 22 and 20 points, respectively, for Golden State, which shot just 39.7 percent for the game and made only 6-of-21 from 3- point range. Curry and Andrew Bogut had 12 points apiece in defeat. Bogut has been bothered by injuries recently and scored in double figures for the first time as a Warrior.

Thompson has scored in double figures in a career-best 18 games in a row dating back to last season.

Golden State was aiming for its first 3-0 road start since 1994-95 and a 16-0 run by the Kings late in the game was detrimental to the Warriors. In both of Golden State's wins this season, the team has outrebounded the opposition. The Warriors are 35-21 in the past four years when doing so.

Meanwhile, the Cavs ended a two-game slide with Monday's 108-101 road win against the Clippers. Rookie Dion Waiters poured in a career-best 28 points, making seven from downtown, and Kyrie Irving added 24 points and 10 assists for the Cavaliers, who are 1-1 on a six-game road trip.

Irving scored 16 points in the opening stanza.

"We played with intensity," Irving said. "We just wanted to push it up the court and we were executing. We gave them different looks tonight."

Anderson Varejao had 15 points and 15 rebounds in a winning effort.

Cleveland scored 21 points off 25 L.A. turnovers. Cavaliers center Tyler Zeller had 15 points and seven rebounds. He left the game late in the fourth quarter after taking an elbow to the face from DeAndre Jordan and is expected to be back this evening.

The Cavaliers also will visit the Suns, Thunder and Nets on the trek.

Golden State and Cleveland squared off once last season, as the Warriors claimed a 105-95 road triumph on Jan. 17 at Quicken Loans Arena. The Warriors have won three in a row against Cleveland.
