Late jumper from LeBron sends Heat to sweep of Magic
Nov 24, 2013 - 6:47 AM Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - LeBron James drained a step-back jumper from beyond the foul line with 15.1 seconds remaining to lift the Miami Heat to a 101-99 win over the Orlando Magic.James ended with 22 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, as the Heat completed the sweep of the home-and-home series. Miami dominated the Magic 120-92 on Wednesday.
Dwyane Wade totaled 27 points and Chris Bosh scored 15 in Miami's sixth consecutive win since a Nov. 9 loss at home to Boston.
Power forward Glen Davis returned for the Magic and had 20 points in his season debut. Davis hadn't played since breaking the fifth metatarsal in his left foot on Jan. 30. He had two surgical procedures to correct the problem.
Following James' jumper, the Magic had a great chance to tie the game. Arron Afflalo drove to the basket, but Bosh came up with the block. Victor Oladipo picked up the loose ball, but his open shot from the right baseline hit off the rim and James corralled the rebound as time expired.
"The play wasn't executed the best," James said of his winning shot. "They kind of read what we were going to do, but I was just able to pop free."
Afflalo had 18 points and seven rebounds. Oladipo scored 17, but the Magic lost for the sixth time in seven games.
"That was a tough game to lose off a shot like that," Davis said. "You can't beat yourself up about it."
For someone playing his first game in 10 months, Davis played with plenty of energy, diving for loose balls, rumbling down the lane and fighting for rebounding position. He rebounded a missed Afflalo 3-point shot and drove down the lane for a layup with 37.8 seconds left. Bosh committed a foul and Davis completed the 3-point play to set the stage for the ending.
The Magic, who wasted a lead of six points in the final quarter, were up as many as 16 in the first half. E'Twaun Moore's 3-pointer widened the gap to 45-29 with 3:50 left and the margin stood at 16 at the break. Afflalo knocked down a 3-ball for a 55-39 halftime difference.
Norris Cole's jumper tied the game at 66 with 4:09 left in the third, but the Magic held a 77-71 edge going to the fourth.
