Magic top SixersFeb 27, 2014 - 3:12 AM Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - In a battle of futility, something had to give when the Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic met at the Wells Fargo Center with both teams riding lengthy losing streaks.
Nikola Vucevic recorded his 26th double-double of the season with 21 points and 13 rebounds to help the Magic to a 101-90 win over the Sixers and snap their team record-tying 16-game road losing streak.
Victor Oladipo added a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double and Jameer Nelson contributed 12 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter to go along with 12 assists, and six rebounds in the win.
"He (Nelson) was vintage," said Magic coach Jacque Vaughn. "We put the ball in his hands and he came out and made shots for us."
The Sixers, meanwhile, are mired in a 12-game losing streak overall and an 11- game skid on their home hardwood.
It's their longest home losing streak since a 12-game skid from Dec. 9, 1996- Jan. 24, 1997. Philadelphia also hasn't lost 12 straight contests overall since losing 12 in a row from Nov. 20-Dec. 11, 2009.
Thaddeus Young paced the Sixers with 19 points, while Tony Wroten and Eric Maynor chipped in with 15 and 13 points, respectively, off the bench.
"I saw improvement," said Sixers coach Brett Brown. "We want to win. That's the bottom line, but it doesn't cripple anything we're doing in regards to how we wake up and (work) the next day."
The Sixers led by eight early in the third quarter, but Orlando ripped off 11 straight to grab a 53-50 lead with just under seven minutes left.
From there, the Sixers regained the lead and Orlando led by as many as seven before Philadelphia ended the frame on a 7-0 sprint to tie the game at 67- apiece entering the fourth.
Philadelphia remained close early in the fourth when Orlando put the game away with a 13-5 run. Andrew Nicholson and Nelson made 3s around a Doron Lamb jumper, and Lamb capped the spurt with three free throws to put the Magic up 88-77.
Orlando led by as many as 13 late in the stanza in coasting to the win.
"When you can go into an opposing venue and get a win, it speaks to your preparation and guys doing the right thing over the course of the game," said Vaughn.
Earlier, A James Anderson 3-pointer helped the Sixers to a 13-7 lead just before the midway point of the first, but Philadelphia would be without a field goal for the next five-plus minutes.
Philadelphia missed 10 consecutive field goals before Wroten converted a three-point play on a layup with 40.2 seconds left to end the drought. Maynor made a running floater on the Sixers' next possession with 3.9 ticks to go which gave the Sixers a 22-19 lead after one.
The scoring woes continued for each team in the second, as Young bookended a 2:30 stretch of scoreless basketball from both squads with a layup and alley-oop slam to push Philadelphia's lead to 38-33 with 3:21 remaining.
The Sixers brought a 44-40 lead into the halftime break.
The 40 points allowed in the first half was the lowest allowed by Philadelphia in an opening half this season ... Henry Sims scored a career-high 10 points in the setback ... Philadelphia has given up 100 or more in 12 straight games, the longest such streak since 1988-89 ... The Magic improved to 4-27 on the road this season. Their last road win came via an 83-82 decision at Chicago on Dec. 16 ... The Sixers shot 32-of-87 (36.8 percent) from the field and 5- for-22 (22.7 percent) from beyond the arc ... The Magic outrebounded the Sixers, 55-42, and had a 48-38 advantage in the paint.
