Nuggets hold off Wolves
Nov 16, 2013 - 5:57 AM Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Wilson Chandler had 19 points, Kenneth Faried scored 16 with 10 rebounds and the Denver Nuggets held off a late-game surge to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 117-113 on Friday night, extending their winning streak to three games.Ty Lawson added 14 points and 10 assists and Andre Miller scored 13 with a key late-game rebound for the Nuggets, who have won 12 of their last 14 home games against Minnesota.
"We've got a bunch of guys who can do a whole bunch of different things, night in night out," said Nuggets forward J.J. Hickson. "You never know who is going to bring what. But we know we have enough players on this team to fill any void."
Kevin Love had 28 points and 10 rebounds and Kevin Martin scored 27 for the Timberwolves, who have lost three of their last four road games.
"Our rotations weren't there. We needed to help the helper, ball screen rotations, they were off all night but we were still right there at the end," said Love.
The Timberwolves trailed by as many as 13 in the fourth quarter, but Love's 3- pointer over Randy Foye from the high left side got them within 115-113 with 18.9 seconds left.
After Chandler missed the second of two free throws at the other end, Miller streaked in from behind the 3-point line to get the rebound and was fouled.
He made 1-of-2 with 12.1 seconds left, giving the Nuggets their 117-113 lead, and Faried blocked Martin on a drive to the lane to keep the Timberwolves from cutting it to two points.
J.J. Hickson had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Nuggets and Timofey Mozgov and Evan Fournier scored 10 apiece. Denver shot 48.5 percent to Minnesota's 48.9 percent.
J.J. Barea scored 21 points for the Timberwolves. Ricky Rubio was held scoreless but had 12 assists and eight rebounds.
The Nuggets led by as many as 12 in the first quarter and 14 in the second before Minnesota caught fire.
The Timberwolves shot 66.7 percent in the second quarter and used a 12-2 run sparked by back-to-back 3-pointers from Martin and Barea to cut their deficit to four.
Martin had four points during an 8-0 burst later in the quarter to give the Timberwolves a six-point lead. They were ahead 60-56 at halftime but the Nuggets led 86-81 going into the fourth quarter.
