Love leads Wolves into Rocky Mountains
Nov 15, 2013 - 3:07 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Love and the Minnesota Timberwolves are back on the road and will visit the Denver Nuggets Friday night at Pepsi Center.Love is the second-leading scorer in the NBA with 27.1 points per game and helped the Timberwolves win for the third time in four tries in Wednesday's 124-95 thrashing of Kyrie Irving and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The sharp-shooting big man pumped in 33 points, grabbed eight rebounds and handed out six assists, while Corey Brewer scored a season-high 27 points. Ricky Rubio was a major contributor once again with 16 points, a career-best 16 assists, six boards and three steals for Minnesota, which shot 54.9 percent for the game and connected on 11-of-22 3-pointers.
"We wanted to keep him pushing the ball," Timberwolves head coach Rick Adelman said of his point guard. "It always helps when you're making shots, and tonight we were making shots."
Brewer was 5-for-5 from downtown.
Minnesota's largest lead was a 115-76 advantage early in the fourth quarter and the team improved to 6-0 this season when shooting 42 percent or better. The Wolves are second in the NBA with 108.2 points per game.
At 6-3, the Wolves are off to their best start since opening 2004-05 with a 6-3 record. The last time Minny won at least seven of its first 10 was back in 2001-02, when the team started 9-1.
Wolves guard Kevin Martin did not play because of flu-like symptoms and is questionable for Friday. He is second on the team with 24.6 ppg.
Denver has won three of four as well and recorded a 111-99 win over the Los Angeles Lakers Wednesday in the Rocky Mountains. Timofey Mozgov led the way with a career-high-tying 23 points and nine rebounds, while Kenneth Faried tallied 21 points and 13 rebounds for the Nuggets, who scored 20 points off 15 L.A. turnovers.
Ty Lawson contributed 19 points and seven assists in the victory and Wilson Chandler netted 12 off the bench.
"With everybody healthy, we're a pretty good team. We can play with the best of them," Chandler said after his season debut.
Faried has been on fire the last two games, posting at least 15 points and 13 rebounds in that time.
The Nuggets, who have won consecutive games for the first time this season and recorded a season-high in points versus the Lakers, are 45-1 in their last 46 games at home when scoring 100-plus points.
Denver and Minnesota split four meetings a season ago, but the Nuggets have defeated the Wolves 21 times in the past 25 encounters. The T'Wolves have lost six of seven and 11 of 13 trips to Pepsi Center.
