Durant leads Thunder past Wolves

Dec 2, 2013 - 6:37 AM Oklahoma City, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Durant had his worst offensive outing in 175 games the last time the Thunder played the Timberwolves.

The star forward's response in their latest meeting? Only his fourth career triple-double.

Durant had 32 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high 12 assists Sunday and Oklahoma City beat Minnesota 113-103 for its seventh straight win.

"Our defense in the second half was outstanding. We didn't give up anything easy and we took care of the basketball," Thunder head coach Scott Brooks said.

On the road Nov. 1, Durant was held to 13 points and the Thunder shot under 35 percent in a 100-81 loss to the Timberwolves, who led by as many as 34 and won for just the third time in the last 17 meetings between the teams.

The Thunder shot 56.3 percent in this one, finished a 6-0 homestand and moved to 8-0 at home this season. Russell Westbrook, who missed the first meeting with Minnesota, scored 19 points two days after hitting a game-winning 3 to beat Golden State, and Reggie Jackson had 18 off the bench.

Kevin Martin led Minnesota with 24 points and Nikola Pekovic scored 22 with 10 rebounds. Kevin Love added 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who led by as many as 11 in the game but were blown out in a 35-20 fourth quarter.

"Fourth quarter, we just went with that small lineup and had some miscommunication and they kind of took control of the game then," Minnesota head coach Rick Adelman said.

The Thunder took their first lead of the game on a Jeremy Lamb 3-pointer 1 1/2 minutes into the fourth quarter. It was part of a 22-7 run that gave Oklahoma City a 13-point lead with 3:47 remaining and it was never closer than six the rest of the way.

Minnesota, which has lost six of eight, built several nine-point leads in the first quarter, the last on J.J. Barea's layup.

Durant knocked down a 3 to get the Thunder within 32-26 going into the second, but the Timberwolves went up 11 on a Pekovic layup with 5 1/2 minutes to go before halftime.

Durant was 14-of-21 from the field, including 3-for-4 on 3-pointers, and scored 20 of his points in the first half. His dunk and three-point play capped a 9-2 burst that got the Thunder within 58-55 at the break.

Minnesota didn't lead by more than seven in a tight third quarter and was up 83-78 going into the fourth.

Durant added four blocks and four steals ... The Thunder will go on the road for three in a row starting Tuesday in Sacramento ... The Timberwolves are home against San Antonio on Wednesday.
