Gooden helps Cavaliers split home-and-home series vs. 76ers
Jan 27, 2007 - 3:38 AM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Drew Gooden and the Cleveland Cavaliers didn't want a repeat performance.Gooden had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Larry Hughes added 16 points as the shorthanded Cavaliers rallied for a 105-97 triumph over the Philadelphia 76ers.
Just two days ago, All-Star LeBron James scored 39 points for the Cavaliers, but it was not enough as they dropped a 118-115 double-overtime decision to the Sixers at Quicken Loans Arena.
On Friday, the Cavaliers were without James, who sat out due to a sore right big toe. The 22-year-old superstar leads the team in scoring (27.1) and assists (6.1).
Cleveland trailed, 94-93, before taking the lead for good when Donyell Marshall and Hughes scored consecutive baskets, sparking an 8-1 run for a 101-95 advantage with 17 seconds remaining.
The 76ers held a 17-point lead after two quarters but were unable to survive the Cavaliers' second-half charge.
Marshall scored five of his 17 points when Cleveland bridged the final two quarters with an impressive 11-3 surge, cutting the deficit to 78-77 with 10:21 left in the game.
Reserve Damon Jones scored 15 points and rookie Daniel Gibson added 11 for the Cavaliers, who shot 49 percent (39-of-79) from the field and made 9-of-18 3-pointers.
Andre Miller had 12 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists and Andre Iguodala scored 22 points for Philadelphia, which shot 50 percent (34-of-68) but committed 19 turnovers.
