Heat beat Nuggets for third win in a row
Mar 21, 2015 - 4:08 AM Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Dwyane Wade scored 22 points to lead five Heat players in double figures in Miami's 108-91 win over the Denver Nuggets on Friday. The Heat have won three games in a row for the first time since the opening three games of the season. They got 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists from Goran Dragic, 15 points from Luol Deng, 14 points and 10 boards from Hassan Whiteside and 10 points off the bench from Mario Chalmers.
"We have to keep plugging away," said Miami coach Erik Spoelstra. "When things don't go your way, you can feel sorry for yourselves, make excuses or just keep on working."
All five Denver starters reached double figures in its third straight loss. Kenneth Faried led the Nuggets with 20, Jusuf Nurkic and Randy Foye had 16 apiece, Wilson Chandler tallied 13, and Ty Lawson added 10 points and 12 assists.
"We generated some good shots, and then we turned the ball over," said Hunt, referring to his club's 16 giveaways.
Miami trailed after one quarter, but it took the lead for good in the second when it shot 77.8 percent. Near the midpoint of the period, Wade re-entered the game after a brief rest and scored six points in an 11-2 Heat run that gave them a 15-point lead. They led 59-46 at the break.
The Nuggets shot 68.4 percent in the third, but their defense continued to struggle, allowing Miami to hit 13-of-21 attempts (61.9 percent) from the field. Faried's hook shot at 3:45 cut Denver's deficit to five, but a 6-0 spurt with four points from Dragic allowed the Heat to take an 87-78 lead after three.
In the fourth, Will Barton's 3 at 10:18 pulled the Nuggets within eight, but they went nearly seven minutes without scoring. A late 10-2 run for the Heat gave them a 20-point lead, their largest of the game.
Neither team led by more than one possession early in the game, but a 15-4 run, with eight points from Chandler, past the midpoint of the first quarter for the Nuggets gave them a 21-11 lead. Denver, though, did not score after Nurkic's jumper at 4:57 and only lead 23-22 after one.
