Final
Jazz top Mavericks
Apr 14, 2015 - 5:33 AM Salt Lake City, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Rudy Gobert tallied 20 points and 17 rebounds and the Utah Jazz used a big third quarter to run away with a 109-92 win over the short-handed Dallas Mavericks.Bryce Cotton threw down an emphatic alley-oop in the second quarter as part of his career-best 21 points off the bench for the Jazz. Joe Ingles added 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting and Trevor Booker added 13 with 12 rebounds.
"I used to catch lobs in the D-League, and we ended up running that play tonight," said Cotton.
Utah is 7-2 over its past nine games. It will finish the regular season Wednesday on the road against MVP candidate James Harden and the Houston Rockets, who are jostling for position in the Southwest Division and have plenty to play for.
With the seventh seed in the Western Conference secured, the Mavericks rested starters Dirk Nowitzki, Monta Ellis, Tyson Chandler and Chandler Parsons. Amar'e Stoudemire and Charlie Villanueva took advantage of the rare starts with 15 points apiece, while J.J. Barea netted 18 off the bench.
Dallas' lone starter to play, Rajon Rondo, finished with 13 points and five assists.
"In the end, we gave up too many rebounds and we had too many turnovers," said Dallas coach Rick Carlisle.
The game was tied 57-57 at halftime, but the Jazz dominated out of the locker room to assume control.
Booker, fresh off a career-high 36 points in Saturday's win over Portland, hit a 3-pointer on Utah's first touch to set the tone for the period. Rookies Rodney Hood and Dante Exum hit consecutive 3s moments later to extend the lead to 68-61.
Chris Johnson joined the 3-point parade, hitting two later in the quarter, and Cotton scored five straight points to jump-start a 10-0 run late that made it 87-67. Barea beat the third-quarter buzzer with a short jumper, but the damage was done.
Dallas trimmed the gap to 102-89 in the fourth and got no closer.
