Struggling Pistons take down Pacers
Dec 27, 2014 - 6:08 AM Auburn Hills, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Andre Drummond put together 20 points, six rebounds and three steals as Detroit posted a 119-109 victory over Indiana on Friday.Greg Monroe followed with 19 points and a game-best 15 rebounds for the Pistons, who put their four-game losing streak to rest and won just their sixth game all season.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 15 points, with Brandon Jennings and D.J. Augustin picking up 14 points apiece.
"Literally everybody played well tonight," Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said. "It was really a team effort all the way around."
Roy Hibbert topped the list with 19 points while Solomon Hill, CJ Watson and Luis Scola all posted 14 for the Pacers, who failed to win a season-best third straight game.
The hosts didn't pull away until the latter stages of the third quarter.
Watson hit a jumper and the Pacers pulled within 68-66, then Detroit reeled off the next 10 points thanks to a Joel Anthony free throw, layup from Kyle Singler, triple from Caldwell-Pope, bucket from Monroe and a Jennings' jumper to cap the burst at 78-66 with 3:48 to play in the period.
The Pistons' edge reached as high as 14, before they entered the fourth ahead 92-83.
Caron Butler sank a shot from long distance to make it 101-86 less than two minutes into the final stanza. Indiana only came as close as seven, after the second of back-to-back shots from Scola closed the gap to 113-106 with 3:57 remaining.
"That's Stan Van Gundy's approach, play the spacing game," Indiana coach Frank Vogel said. "You got an elite roller in Andre Drummond... You got to give them credit, they played a great basketball game."
Earlier, the hosts led by as many as 10 late in the first quarter and eventually were ahead 32-26 after 12 minutes.
Watson's jumper provided a 50-50 deadlock with 1:44 to play in the half before Monroe's basket and a three by Jennings provided separation and the Pistons entered the break up 57-53.
