Augustin leads Pistons over Heat

Feb 4, 2015 - 5:11 AM Auburn Hills, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - D.J. Augustin had 25 points and a season-high 13 assists and the Detroit Pistons never trailed over the last 3 1/2 quarters on the way to a 108-91 win over the Miami Heat on Tuesday.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 18 points and Andre Drummond scored 14 and had 14 rebounds for the Pistons, who have won two in a row on the heels of a four- game losing streak.

Detroit got 13 points from Kyle Singler, 12 from Greg Monroe and 10 from Jodie Meeks in a well-balanced offensive output.

The Heat were coming off an 83-75 win in Boston on Sunday to open a four-game road trip, but never held a lead after 11-8 despite 34 points from Chris Bosh.

Bosh scored 21 of his points while shooting 9-for-9 in the third quarter.

Miami played a third game without Dwyane Wade, who suffered a hamstring strain last Tuesday against Milwaukee and could sidelined for weeks.

Hassan Whiteside, the 7-foot center who led the Heat in scoring the last two games, had 11 points and 10 rebounds in this one for his fourth double-double in five games.

Miami led 11-8 after Bosh's 3-pointer five minutes into the game, but scored one more point the rest of the first quarter.

Caldwell-Pope and Augustin each had seven points in the ensuing 25-1 Pistons run, which gave them a 33-12 lead going into the second quarter.

For the Heat, it mirrored a similar stretch against Dallas on Friday, when they were outscored 39-3 over a nearly 14-minute span in the third and fourth quarters on the way to a 93-72 loss.

Miami got as close as eight in the second quarter against Detroit, which took a 53-39 advantage into halftime behind 12 points and 11 rebounds by Drummond.

The Pistons led by 20 after scoring eight of the first 10 points in the third quarter, capped by back-to-back 3s from Singler and Augustin.

The lead remained in double digits for the rest of the game.
