Jazz pull away from Blazers

Feb 21, 2015 - 6:12 AM Salt Lake City, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Gordon Hayward had 20 points, Trey Burke added 19 and the Utah Jazz defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 92-76 on Friday night.

Derrick Favors posted 16 points and nine rebounds for the Jazz, who have won three of their last four games.

"We were trying to make each other better, and I think you get rewarded for that," Utah coach Quin Snyder said.

Damian Lillard netted 19 points and LaMarcus Aldridge supplied 14 points and eight boards for Portland, which had won four of its last five contests coming in.

"You got to give Utah credit with its defense. They were very energetic. They were scrambling. They were closing out hard on our shooters," Blazers coach Terry Stouts said.

The Jazz ripped off 17 straight points from the final minute of the third quarter to the beginning of the fourth to turn the game into a rout.

Burke nailed a jumper in the waning seconds of the third to stake Utah to a 65-59 advantage going into the final frame. Dante Exum, Rodney Hood and Elijah Millsap each hit 3-pointers during the surge, with Millsap's capping it and extending the margin to 80-59.

The Jazz led by as many as 22 down the stretch.

Earlier, Aldridge netted six quick points as the Blazers raced out to a 15-9 start. They were up 24-18 following a quarter of play and 43-39 at the break.

Hayward finished off an 11-2 Utah burst with a pair of free throws for a 52-51 edge midway through the third.

Utah snapped a five-game losing skid against Portland ... The Jazz outrebounded the Blazers 48-37 and held a 36-24 points in the paint advantage ... Utah made just 8-of-17 free throws, but held Portland to just 36.1 percent (26-of-72) from the floor.
