Bynum, Odom help Lakers end seven-game slide at 76ers

Dec 22, 2007 - 7:20 AM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The 1-2 punch of Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom were too much to handle.

Bynum collected a career-high 24 points and 11 rebounds and Odom added 21 and 11 as the Los Angeles Lakers posted a 106-101 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night.

It was the third consecutive double-double for the duo as they made 18-of-22 combined shots in helping the Lakers snap their seven-game slide in Philadelphia.

The 20-year-old Bynum dominated the first half, scoring 18 points as the Lakers built a 56-53 lead at the break.

"My teammates were looking for me in the first half," Bynum said. "I think that I'm getting better and better with each game. I try to improve something each game."

"The first half Andrew Bynum hurt us," Sixers coach Maurice Cheeks said. "We needed to limit his drives to the basket. The first half, we didn't do a good job."

Derek Fisher poured in 21 points and Kobe Bryant chipped in 19 and seven boards for the Lakers, who improved 2-1 to on their four-game tour of the East Coast.

With only a three-point lead to start the fourth quarter, Los Angeles used a 9-2 surge that was capped by Jordan Farmar's reverse layup at the 8:56 mark to make it 93-83.

Rookie Thaddeus Young and Willie Green scored on back-to-back possessions as the Sixers closed within 96-91 with 4:31 left in the game.

But Bryant made five straight free throws and Bynum tipped in his eighth offensive rebound to keep the 76ers at bay with 1:23 remaining.

"The kind of shots (Bynum) had were easy," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "He made two field goals on good moves. He's such a long, lanky guy that he has the ability to go up and get the ball at almost any height."

"He continues to work," Bryant said. "His poise comes from working hard and having the confidence from being able to produce and perform. The key for him is to keep it up."

Down 75-72, Odom began a 10-0 run with a layup that ended with Fisher scoring eight straight points to forge an 82-75 lead at the 2:11 mark in the third.

"On the road, you have to keep playing," Fisher said. "You find a way to crack the game open and you take advantage of it. We found a few minutes where we could separate ourselves and we were able to able to hold on for the win."

Andre Miller scored 21 points and Andre Iguodala had 20 and nine assists as Philadelphia dropped its third game in four tries since a season-high four-game winning streak.

"We've lost some tough games," Iguodala said. "There have been small minor errors that we have to change. We have to keep moving forward."
