Redd, Bucks top Grizzlies to extend winning streak

Dec 28, 2006 - 4:41 AM MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Michael Redd and Andrew Bogut kept the Milwaukee Bucks on a roll.

Redd and Bogut scored 20 points apiece as the Bucks used a third-quarter run to extend their season-high winning streak to six games with a 112-96 win over the lowly Memphis Grizzlies.

Ruben Patterson scored 19 points for Milwaukee, which shot 49 percent (44-of-90) from the field and outrebounded the Grizzlies, 45-39.

The Bucks went over .500 for the first time since November 4.

"We're showing a bit of firepower right now," Redd said. "It was great team effort with pretty balanced production across the board. That's what we're going to need to keep this (streak) going. Our goal was to go back over .500."

On Tuesday, Redd scored 36 points as the the Bucks posted an impressive 114-107 victory at San Antonio. One night later, Redd shot 6-of-17 from the floor and 3-of-7 from the arc and Bogut was 10-of-13 from the field to secure another win.

"We did a good job of guarding against (a letdown)," Milwaukee coach Terry Stotts said. "We didn't play as well as we did (Tuesday) in San Antonio - with the same sense of urgency - but we were able to get out of here with another win and that's big."

Leading, 69-58, with 4:48 remaining in the third quarter, the Bucks blew open the game with a 14-0 spurt to make it 83-58 with 2:25 left in the period.

"We didn't come out in the second half with as much energy or fire as in the first," Bogut said. "But we were able to pick it up in the first few minutes of the third quarter and we took the game."

This is Milwaukee's longest winning streak since reeling off eight in a row from January 8-21, 2002.

Pau Gasol scored 29 points for the Grizzlies, who shot 48 percent (39-of-81) in their 11th loss in 12 games.

"If we keep playing like we did (Wednesday), it will get worse," Gasol said. "The fans are getting upset and it's understandable. It's not a fun situation."

Memphis coach Mike Fratello thought his team lacked effort.

"You have to have play with spirit. You need a certain spirit to play," Fratello said. "You have to have it. Ruben has it for Milwaukee. Mo Williams shoves it back in your face. Bogut has toughness. When we've won and played teams to the wire, we've had that spirit."
