Randolph, Roy help Blazers end four-game skid

Jan 7, 2007 - 7:22 AM SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Zach Randolph and rookie Brandon Roy put an end to the Portland Trail Blazers' slide.

Randolph had 32 points and 15 rebounds and Roy scored a season-high 23 points as the Trail Blazers snapped a four-game losing streak with a 110-105 overtime triumph over the Sacramento Kings.

In the extra session, Ron Artest scored on driving layup and John Salmons connected on a 3-pointer, tying the game at 102-102 with 1:07 remaining.

However, Randolph scored on a spinning floater in the lane and Roy made two free throws with nine seconds to go.

Kevin Martin split a pair of free throws to give Sacramento a 95-93 lead with four seconds left in regulation.

"It stings pretty bad, especially coming from my standpoint," Martin said. "Our team put us in a situation to win at the end of the game and I missed some costly free throws. I just feel bad for the team right now."

But Roy drained a pull-up jumper over the outstretched arm of Salmons as time expired to send the game into overtime.

"Late down the stretch we ran that play to get to Zach," Roy said. "I think they knew it so they were all over him. I just popped out, Jarrett (Jack) kicked it to me. I just tried to get something going to the basket. I was just lucky enough to hit the shot."

"That just shows you how mature he is," Randolph said. "As a rookie, he's mature. He'll come in and make that big shot. A lot of rookies couldn't do that. It just shows what kind of player he is."

Roy has brilliant since returning from a heel injury earlier this season, scoring in doubld figures in seven of nine games .

"He's a great player. He's my Rookie of the Year," Randolph said. "He's ready. He played like it, he played four years at Washington. It just shows you what staying in college does. He was ready to play. He steps on the court and does what he does. With his talent, there's no limit."

Jack scored 17 points and Martell Webster chipped in 12 off the bench for Portland, which shot 40 percent (36-of-88) from the field.

Mike Bibby scored 28 points and Artest added 23 and two steals for the Kings, who dropped their second straight overtime game, both at home.

"We need to do more. We need to rebound," Bibby said. "We're letting teams push us around a little too much, just letting them push us and not pushing back. We've got to get tough and just everybody rebound. It's all about effort on the defensive end. I don't think as a team we're giving enough effort to win games."

Kings center Brad Miller left the game with flu-like symptoms and did not return. He finished with three points in nine minutes.

In the fourth quarter, Corliss Williamson scored back-to-back baskets to fuel a 15-0 surge that opened an 88-79 advantage with nine minutes remaining.
