Marion, Suns win sixth straight, cruise by Warriors

Jan 8, 2007 - 6:33 AM PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Shawn Marion and the Phoenix Suns wanted to show the Golden State Warriors why they are the highest-scoring team in the NBA.

Marion scored 24 points and reserves Leandro Barbosa and James Jones added 26 and 25, respectively, as the Suns posted a 128-105 victory over the Warriors.

Steve Nash had 14 points and dished out 10 assists and Amare Stoudemire added 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Phoenix, which entered the contest leading the league with an average of 110.3 points.

"We are playing pretty well, the ball is moving, and we have a lot of weapons," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said.

Marion shot 11-of-19 from the field and hauled in a season-high 17 rebounds for the Suns, who outscored the Warriors by nine points in both the second and third quarters to break the game open.

"We got the thing going on both ends of the floor tonight," Marion said. "We picked it up and ran away with it."

"The ball started to go in every time and when we shoot the ball like that and move the ball, it is going to be tough for anybody," D'Antoni added.

Barbosa scored 13 points in the second period for Phoenix, which entered the quarter trailing, 30-29, and has now won six straight games.

"The coach started me in the second quarter and he wanted me to use my speed and for us to pick up the pace," Barbosa said.

Phoenix had 34 assists to just 10 for Golden State and committed 15 turnovers to 25 for the Warriors. The Suns also knocked down 12-of-32 3-pointers and shot 52 percent (54-of-104).

Monta Ellis scored 22 points and Baron Davis added 17, but between them turned the ball over 14 times for Golden State, which falls to 4-13 on the road this season.

"Tonight we faced a team that is rolling," Davis said. "It's a playoff-caliber team that knows what to do to a team when they come in on a back-to-back. We've got to be better and figure out what it takes to beat a team like this."

Kelenna Azubuike scored 16 points and fellow reserve Mike Dunleavy added 15 for the Warriors, who shot 44 percent (37-of-85) and have lost three straight to the Suns.
