Randolph helps Trail Blazers defeat Kings

Jan 13, 2007 - 7:05 AM PORTLAND, Oregon (Ticker) -- Zach Randolph wanted to make sure the Sacramento Kings tasted defeat for the second time in a week to his Portland Trail Blazers.

Randolph scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Trail Blazers posted a 95-87 victory over the Kings.

Juan Dixon scored 21 off the bench, including 14 in the fourth quarter, as Portland snapped a three-game losing streak while extending Sacramento's slide to four.

"I shot the ball thirteen times and was able to get in a rhythm and hit some shots," Dixon said. "I'm glad I was able to step up today."

One of the King's four straight losses included a 115-110 defeat at home vs. the Blazers last Saturday. In that game, Randolph had a game-high 32 points and Portland rookie Brandon Roy added 23 points.

Randolph shot 9-of-21 from the floor in this one and Roy had 11 points as did Dan Dickau, who started at point guard for Portland because Jarrett Jack was hospitalized after suffering a concussion in a car accident Friday morning.

"I thought overall I was all right," Randolph said. "I passed the ball well out of the double team, was able to get some other guys involved early. I missed a couple easy shots but I thought I was pretty good."

"With Jack out, we had to step up," Dixon said. "Dan did a great job at the point guard position and our bench did alright and helped get a win."

Ime Udoka added 10 points, nine rebounds and two blocks for the Blazers, who shot 49 percent (38-of-77) from the field.

"It was a total team effort," Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan said. "Dixon had his rhythm tonight and Dickau played a solid game and knocked down some shots."

Kevin Martin scored 17 points and Ron Artest had all 16 of his points in the second half for Sacramento, which won the previous three games with Portland prior to this week.

"It's just another night where we got outplayed," Martin said. "We gotta do something right now to change it."

Reserve Corliss Williamson scored 14 points and Mike Bibby added 13 for the Kings, who also shot 49 percent (33-of-68).

"I don't know what happened tonight," Artest said. "It was just one of hose games. It happens. You have to learn from your mistakes, turn around and get better. Right now we are playing bad basketball.
