Harrington, Warriors run past Bobcats
Jan 28, 2007 - 7:44 AM OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Al Harrington and the Golden State Warriors delivered an early blow from which the Charlotte Bobcats could not recover.Harrington scored 14 of his 28 points in a 40-point first quarter as the Warriors rolled to a 131-105 triumph over the Bobcats.
Baron Davis added 17 points and 10 assists and Stephen Jackson contributed 17 points for Golden State, which scored 21 of the game's first 23 points and shot 71 percent (12-of-17) from the field in the opening period.
Harrington began the game with back-to-back 3-pointers and his shot from the arc gave him 11 points and the Warriors a 15-2 cushion just 3:42 into the contest.
"For me personally, it's always good for me to make my first couple of shots because my confidence really gets going and then I start feeling like I can make any shot, and for the team it just became contagious," Harrington said. "Everybody got involved and it was a great team effort."
"We anointed him," Charlotte coach Bernie Bickerstaff said. "He came down, he made his shots and they were open shots. We really didn't contest him and that's what he does in that situation, and our scouting report going in was don't allow him to start off with the 3-point shots because it energizes them, and that's exactly what they did."
Acquired on January 17 from Indiana, Harrington made 9-of-11 shots overall, including 5-of-5 from long range.
"Al Harrington was very impressive tonight, as well as getting 28 points on just 11 shots," Warriors coach Don Nelson said. "I knew what I was getting in Harrington, as he is a good player who runs the floor well and fits into our system."
Charlotte pulled within 63-54 at halftime but surrendered 38 points in the third quarter to fall behind by 25 and end any shot it had of a comeback victory.
The Warriors shot 56 percent (44-of-79) overall, including 59 percent (10-of-17) from the arc.
Rookie Adam Morrison scored 21 points and Gerald Wallace 19 for the Bobcats, who had completed a season series sweep of the Los Angeles Lakers with a 106-97 overtime victory Friday.
"I felt all right but it's not fun getting blown out by 20," Morrison said. "They came out early and stomped on us quick, and we battled back and got within nine, and then they came out early third quarter and got back to what they started, so it was tough."
