Garnett, Timberwolves aim for third straight win

Jan 31, 2007 - 7:27 PM Sacramento (17-26) at Minnesota (22-22) 8:00 pm EST

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Two days after knocking off the hottest team in the NBA, Kevin Garnett and the Minnesota Timberwolves look to take down one of the league's coldest clubs.

The Timberwolves shoot for their third straight win Wednesday when they host the struggling Sacramento Kings.

Minnesota made headlines Monday with a 121-112 victory over the Phoenix Suns, ending Phoenix's franchise-record 17-game winning streak.

Garnett scored a season-high 44 points on 18-for-29 shooting and also collected 11 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who outscored Phoenix by 10 points in the fourth quarter after entering the period trailing by one.

Ricky Davis had 17 points and eight assists and reserve Marko Jaric added 11 points for Minnesota, which shot a season-high 59 percent (49-of-83) and handed interim coach Randy Wittman his second straight victory after two consecutive losses.

Sacramento fell, 124-117, to the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday. Mike Bibby scored 23 points and Kevin Martin chipped in 22 for the Kings, who are on a three-game skid and have dropped 11 of their last 14 contests.

Sacramento, which has dropped 15 of its last 19 trips here, is just 5-15 on the road in 2006-07.
