Felton, Wallace lead Bobcats over Warriors

Feb 4, 2007 - 5:26 AM CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Raymond Felton and the Charlotte Bobcats continue their steady progress.

Felton scored 22 points to lead four starters in double figures as the Bobcats posted 98-90 triumph over the Golden State Warriors.

Gerald Wallace had 21 points and 16 rebounds and emerging star Emeka Okafor chipped in 16 and 11 for Charlotte, which has won three of four games and improved to 9-6 in its last 15 contests.

"It's great," Wallace said. "I wish we would win some more of those ballgames that we should have won. I think right now we have to come out every game with the same mentality that we have had of late if we want to be a playoff team."

"We are getting better at finishing games," Bobcats coach Bernie Bickerstaff said.

Wallace has been impressive since returning from a separated shoulder, averaging 21.9 points and 9.5 rebounds with four double-doubles in his last 10 games.

"There was a stretch where he basically put us on his back," Bickerstaff said. "When you get a guy doing that, it lifts the team. There's really no one else on the team that can do that."

In the fourth quarter, Felton and Okafor scored on consecutive possessions to help Charlotte open an 86-80 advantage with 5:56 remaining.

Baron Davis converted a three-point play to halve the deficit, but the Warriors got no closer. Felton and Matt Carroll drained back-to-back 3-pointers to key a 10-4 run that sealed the win.

"We are starting to learn how to win games at the end," Felton said. "We are coming together as a team, get stops on the defensive end and coming down and hitting our shots. That's a big thing."

Felton made 8-of-19 shots despite leaving in the third quarter after catching an elbow in the face by Golden State forward Al Harrington.

"Al and I are good friends," Felton said. "I know he didn't mean to do it; he was just turning around at the time."

"Raymond was the key for them," Harrington said. "He hit a lot of big shots. Overall, they did a great job and never quit. They did what they had to do to win the game."

Davis scored 21 points and Andris Biedrins added 15 and a career-high 18 rebounds for the Warriors, who were held to just 29 percent shooting in the second half.

With the loss, Golden State fell to a dismal 5-18 away from home this season and 1-3 on its current six-game East Coast swing.

"I wish things would be better," Warriors coach Don Nelson said. "We won one game (of this road trip) with a shot at the buzzer and didn't have the opportunity to win the game at the buzzer on the other. I'm going to keep teaching, keep coaching and trying to do a good job there, and push to win games."
