Clippers-Timberwolves Preview

Los Angeles (10-13) at Minnesota (4-21), 8:00 p.m. EDT

Marcus Camby believes an impressive comeback win was just what the Los Angeles Clippers needed before embarking on a six-game road trip.

Camby and the Clippers hope to build on that victory Wednesday night when they visit the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Things weren't looking good for Los Angeles (10-13) on Monday against Washington, trailing 64-47 midway through the third quarter. The Clippers, though, charged back with a 20-2 run to pull ahead en route to a 97-95 win, their third on a six-game homestand.

"We talked about this being our getaway game, so this was an important win," said Camby, who had 15 rebounds and two last-minute free throws. "Going into Minnesota this will boost our confidence and allow us to play strong. Every game on this road trip is winnable. We just need to come in with the same attitude we did (Monday)."

The Clippers, who have one win in their last four road games, have already defeated the Timberwolves twice this season - both at Staples Center.

The last time they met, Baron Davis drove the lane for a clinching layup with 8.5 seconds left in a 91-87 victory Nov. 23.

Eric Gordon matched his season high with 29 points on 10-of-15 shooting against the Wizards, hitting his final free throw with 11.3 seconds left.

"In his second year he has more confidence, and he's becoming more of a playmaker," Davis said. "We've got to keep finding him, because he's the focal point of our offense. He sets the tone. He sets the tempo for us."

Gordon had 17 points in a 93-90 win over Minnesota on Nov. 2, while Chris Kaman finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Gordon missed the next matchup with a sore left groin.

The Timberwolves (4-21) are coming off Monday's 110-108 win at Utah, snapping a four-game losing streak. Two of Minnesota's four wins are against the Jazz.

"If I knew the formula, I would have them play that way against every single team," coach Kurt Rambis said.

Rookie Jonny Flynn had a breakout performance Monday. After scoring eight points on 4-of-14 shooting in Saturday's 120-100 loss to Sacramento, Flynn finished with 28 points - eight more than he had ever scored in an NBA game - and his layup with 3 seconds left broke a 108-all tie.

"This entire season and one or two after are going to be growing up periods for him," Rambis said. "I want to give him those opportunities to see what he can do in those late game situations and he delivered for us."

Flynn, the sixth pick of this year's draft, is averaging 15.0 points and has shot 10 of 20 in the two games against the Clippers.
