Bryant to face Knicks after missing New York engagement

Feb 13, 2007 - 4:42 PM New York (22-29) at LA Lakers (30-22) 10:30 pm EST

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- After missing the last meeting at Madison Square Garden due to a suspension, Kobe Bryant will face the New York Knicks on Tuesday.

Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers look to snap a three-game losing streak when they open a four-game homestand against the Knicks.

The All-Star guard was suspended for the first meeting between the teams on January 30 for elbowing San Antonio guard Manu Ginobili in a 96-94 loss on January 28.

Bryant claimed the elbow was accidental and was disappointed that the league held him back from playing in his one appearance in New York - one of his favorite places to play. Without Bryant, the Lakers suffered a 99-94 loss to the Knicks.

On Tuesday, however, Bryant will be in the lineup, looking to turn around the Lakers' recent woes.

Los Angeles went 3-5 on its road swing, capped off by a 99-90 loss against superstar LeBron James and Cleveland in a marquee matchup on Sunday. Bryant scored 36 points on 12-of-24 shooting for the Lakers.

One of the NBA's best home teams (19-6), Los Angeles hopes that a return to the Staples Center will turn its play around.

New York is just 9-16 away from home.

The Knicks squandered a 10-point fourth quarter lead in a 104-102 overtime loss at Utah on Saturday. Jamal Crawford scored 29 points and Eddy Curry added 27, but the two combined for 14 turnovers.
