Jackson, Ellis help Warriors crush Knicks

Feb 15, 2007 - 7:52 AM OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- With Baron Davis down for a while, Stephen Jackson stepped up for the Golden State Warriors.

Jackson scored a season high-tying 36 points and Monta Ellis added 23 as the Warriors posted a 120-101 blowout victory over the New York Knicks.

Al Harrington had 17 points and nine rebounds and rookie Kelenna Azubuike added 15 and seven for Golden State, which is without scoring and assist leader Baron Davis, who underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Tuesday and is sidelined indefinitely.

Jackson connected on 16-of-26 shots from the floor, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range for the Warriors, who have won four straight and eight of their last nine vs. the Knicks.

"We just kept the pedal to the metal and made our shots," Warriors coach Don Nelson said. "We had the benefit of them playing a back-to-back night. It's a great way to head into the All-Star Break."

"Stephen played great tonight," Warriors forward Matt Barnes said. "He finally got a chance to get some rest and he came out and carried us tonight."

Ellis was 9-of-11 from the field as Golden State built a 31-point lead with five minutes left in the third quarter. The Warriors shot 60 percent (48-of-80).

"It feels good to go into the All-Star Break with a W," Ellis said. "When we come back we know what we need to do to get this thing rolling."

Reserve Nate Robinson scored a season-high 23 points for New York and his 3-pointer with 6:54 remaining cut Golden State's lead to 100-91.

"We were down by a large amount but our guys fought back," Knicks coach Isiah Thomas said. "With eight minutes to go we cut the lead and did it with our second unit who was out there scrapping. They had energy and they had legs and they were good."

However, six points each by Jackson and Ellis down the stretch opened the game back up to blowout status.

"We just needed to do what got us back to the big lead," Jackson said. "I think we stopped playing defense and started watching the clock, but Coach got on us a little bit and we came out and we were able to finish the game."

Eddy Curry, David Lee and rookie Renaldo Balkman each had 13 points for New York, which shot 43 percent (40-of-94) from the field and has dropped five of seven away from home.
