Warriors look to end road woes
Feb 27, 2007 - 3:48 PM Golden State (26-31) at Milwaukee (20-37) 8:00 pm ESTMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Golden State Warriors will have to break through away from home if they are going to remain in the playoff race.
One of the worst road teams in the NBA, the Warriors will open a five-game swing when they visit the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday.
Just 1 1/2 games behind New Orleans and the Los Angeles Clippers for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference, Golden State could be in better position if it were not for its poor road record. The Warriors are 6-21 on the road, allowing 112.0 points per game in those contests.
Golden State will take on Chicago, New York, Washington and Detroit on the rest of the trip.
The Warriors have not been playing well lately no matter the venue, dropping four of their last six contests, including a 102-85 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday. Monta Ellis scored 22 points for cold-shooting Golden State, which made just 2-of-19 from the arc and were a pitiful 9-of-21 at the free-throw line.
The Warriors will look turn it around on the road when they take on the Bucks, who are aiming to win two in a row for the first time since a six-game run from December 16-27.
Milwaukee is just 4-22 since January but now has back star guard Michael Redd, who missed 20 games with a left knee injury. After dropping their first three since Redd's return, the Bucks finally broke through with a 109-90 victory over Philadelphia on Saturday.
Redd and backcourt mate Mo Williams combined to score 52 points on 19-of-31 shooting from the field, including 8-of-14 from the arc. Guard Earl Boykins missed his second straight game with a ligament injury in his right thumb.
After losing nine of 10 games in Milwaukee, the Warriors have won two straight meetings between the teams here.
