Miller's triple-double lifts Kings over Grizzlies
Apr 11, 2007 - 6:04 AM MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Brad Miller and the Sacramento Kings had been struggling on the road - until they traveled to Memphis.Miller recorded his third career triple-double as the Kings snapped a four-game road losing streak with a 112-100 victory over the lowly Memphis Grizzlies.
The nine-year veteran, who had scored just 16 points combined over his last four games, had 17 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists and Bibby added 25 and seven assists for Sacramento, which won the series, 2-1.
"There's no giving up right now," Miller said. "We needed to come out and get this win tonight, because we still want to win. It's a good win on the road and being down some guys. I thought our guys were all unselfish tonight, and we competed hard to win."
The Kings were down a pair of players as Kevin Martin (illness) and Corliss Williamson (heel) both sat this one out.
"It's good to get a win on the road," Kings coach Eric Musselman said. "It's tough to win on the road, no matter where you play. ... I give our guys a lot of credit. ... I'm proud of the hustle and commitment they've had in the past few games."
Bibby had also been struggling, averaging only 10 points - seven below his average - in his last five games.
"It's always good to snap a losing streak and to get going after a slump," Bibby said. "Tonight, I was able to going, and Brad (Miller) played great. We all played well together. It was unselfish basketball, and that's what we needed to get it done."
Dahntay Jones had 18 points and Pau Gasol added 17 and nine rebounds for the Grizzlies, who have lost six in a row and have locked up the dubious honors of worst record in the league (19-60).
"It's disappointing to lose, no matter what your record is or what you're playing for," Gasol said. "They played well tonight. ... I thought Miller was really tough tonight. He hit a lot of shots and made plays for them when they needed it, and Bibby made some good shots.
"We have some guys hurt right now, but we still need to work and try to play better these last few games."
Sacramento closed the first quarter on a 27-3 run to take a 39-15 lead. However, Memphis responded with a 33-14 second-quarter run to close within 53-48 at the half.
The Grizzlies trailed by 10 for most of the third quarter and never got closer than 82-70 early in the fourth.
Memphis, which has lost 10 of 11 at home, was without starters Damon Stoudamire and Mike Miller for the ninth straight game.
Rookie Rudy Gay also missed his second straight game with a sprained right ankle. He is considered day-to-day.
"It's unfortunate that we have played the last few weeks shorthanded, but we can't use that as an excuse," Grizzlies coach Tony Barone. "That's just part of the game."
