Westbrook, Durant lead Thunder past Blazers
Nov 13, 2010 - 6:06 AM Oklahoma City, OK (Sports Network) - Russell Westbrook finished with a career- high 36 points and Kevin Durant added 34, as the Oklahoma City Thunder edged the Portland Trail Blazers, 110-108, at Oklahoma City Arena.Serge Ibaka, Nenad Krstic and James Harden each finished with 12 points for Oklahoma City, which has won three of four.
Brandon Roy finished with 24 points and Nicolas Batum supplied 21 points for Portland, which is winless against the Thunder in two games this season. The Blazers also dropped a 107-106 overtime decision back on November 4.
Andre Miller finished with the game's only double-double, 19 points and 10 assists, while Rudy Fernandez ended with 15 points in the loss.
Portland started the fourth on a 7-2 run, that was endcapped by Fernandez baskets, to extend their margin to 94-86. After the teams traded baskets the Blazers were sitting with a 100-95 lead with under five minutes remaining.
Westbrook hit two from the line to get a 10-0 run started for the Thunder. Durant scored the final eight points of the burst to give Oklahoma City a 105-100 lead with 1:29 to go.
Batum hit a floating jumper and Roy hit a putback layup to trim the lead to 104-105 with 50.9 seconds remaining. The Thunder responded again with a Westbrook driving layup to regain a three point lead.
Roy hit a putback layup and from there the teams traded trips to the foul line. With 12.3 ticks remaining Durant was sent to the line for two and after making the first the second was off target. The Blazers took it the length of the court looking for the final shot but Fernandez's three pointer at the buzzer was off target.
Miller's 10 points in the first quarter helped Portland take a 35-29 lead into the second.
Westbrook added 15 points in the second stanza but Portland used timely shooting to take a 65-61 lead heading to the locker room.
Krstic and Ibaka both hit jumpers to open up the third quarter to tie the game at 65. Roy's jumper and Batum's three-pointer and hook shot gave the Blazers a 72-63 edge with 9:10 left.
The Thunder took the lead with two Durant free throws midway through the quarter but Portland responded with a LaMarcus Aldridge jumper. After the teams traded baskets, Durant hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 80 and the Thunder went up by four with another Durant basket and two Westbrook free throws.
With 1:11 remaining, Batum recorded a three-point play to put the Blazers ahead. Rudy Fernandez hit a running dunk with 28 ticks remaining to give Portland a 87-84 lead heading into the final stanza.
Game Notes
Oklahoma City won the first meeting between these two teams on November 4, 107-106 in OT...The Thunder made 15-of-16 shots from the free throw line in the first half...Portland's 65 first half points is their most for any half this season.
