Sixers and Nets meet at The Rock
Dec 14, 2010 - 3:54 PM (Sports Network) - The New Jersey Nets will try to put the clamps down on a seven-game losing streak when they entertain the Atlantic Division-rival Philadelphia 76ers tonight from the Prudential Center.New Jersey suffered its seventh consecutive defeat with Sunday's 99-92 setback at the hands of the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers in the opener of a three-game homestand. Kobe Bryant pumped in a game-high 32 points for the Lakers, who have won the last six matchups with the Nets.
Brook Lopez had 25 points and nine rebounds, as New Jersey fell to 4-7 in Newark this season. Kris Humphries had 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Devin Harris posted 16 points and 10 assists in the loss. Humphries is averaging a career-high and team-best 8.6 rebounds over the first 24 games of the season.
"It was back-and-forth, a one-point game," Lopez said. "It could have gone either way, but it just got away from us."
The Nets are winless in their last three home games and will also welcome the Washington Wizards to town on the residency.
Philadelphia hasn't fared too well on the road, having lost eight in a row as the guest for a lowly 1-10 record away from the City of Brotherly Love. Its only road win this season came on Nov.7 at New York.
The Sixers completed a four-game homestand with a 3-1 mark and are coming off Sunday's 88-70 demolition of the New Orleans Hornets. Andre Iguodala had 16 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, Lou Williams netted 17 points and Elton Brand had 15 points and 13 rebounds for Philadelphia, which has won five of its last seven games overall.
"The mentality around the team is great. Five out of seven," said Brand, who is averaging team-highs of 15.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.27 blocks. "We had a lead out in Atlanta, big lead and the one-point loss the other day [to Boston]. That could have been seven in a row. We would have been one of the most talked about teams in the league, so they know we can play. We are just working hard to get better."
Philly held the Hornets to a season-low 70 points. Brand has recorded four double-doubles over his past five games and owns eight overall this season after having just seven in 76 games played in 2009-10. Williams is averaging 13.4 points on 44.6 percent shooting through the previous seven games.
The last time the Sixers lost more than eight straight as the visitor was a 10-game drought from Nov. 12 - Dec. 16, 2006. Center Tony Battie is questionable for tonight because of flu-like symptoms.
The 76ers beat New Jersey, 102-86, on Nov. 27th this season at Well Fargo Center and have won five straight in the series. These two teams have split the last 10 meetings at New Jersey.
