LeBron and star-studded Heat kick off New Year by hosting Warriors

Jan 1, 2011 - 3:39 PM (Sports Network) - A surging Miami club will try to keep its foot on the gas pedal tonight when they entertain the Golden State Warriors in South Beach.

The Heat won their 10th straight road game in Houston on Wednesday when Dwyane Wade recorded a season-high 45 points in a 125-119 win over the Rockets, snapping Houston's eight-game home winning streak.

The Heat triumphed despite allowing at least 100 points for the first time in their last 17 games, since their last road setback, 106-95, at Dallas on Nov. 27. They've won four in a row and 16 of their last 17 overall.

"We had to win it in a different way," Wade said. "Usually we like to hold teams under 100, but tonight we gave up a lot more than that, but came up with the win."

Chris Bosh ended with 21 points, while LeBron James totaled 20 points, nine assists and six rebounds for Miami, which finished December with an incredible 15-1 mark, setting a franchise record for the most wins in the month. The Heat shot 58.1 percent from the field and sealed the victory by going 34-of-37 at the foul line.

Wade, who went 17-of-24 from the floor and sank all 10 of his foul shots, also had seven rebounds. It was his 30th career game with at least 40 points.

In the last 15 NBA seasons, only James' former club, the Cleveland Cavaliers, won more games in a month when they went 16-1 in March 2009. Phoenix also finished 15-1 in January of 2007.

The Warriors, meanwhile, improved to 1-1 on a five-game road trip in Charlotte last night when Monta Ellis' layup with 1:20 remaining proved to be the difference, as Golden State held off the Bobcats, 96-95.

Ellis ended with 25 points and five assists for the Warriors, who have won four of five overall. Stephen Curry added 24 points for Golden State, which got 17 points and five boards from Dorell Wright.

"Although it was close, it would have been a tough one to lose on the road and we needed that game so I'm glad we got it," Warriors big man David Lee said."

Golden State, which is 5-13 as the visitor this season, will also face Orlando and New Orleans on its trek.

Miami has won five straight over the Warriors, including a 106-84 blowout win in Oakland back on Dec. 10.
