Jazz make a stop in Memphis

Jan 7, 2011 - 4:22 PM (Sports Network) - The Utah Jazz kick off a brief two-game road trip tonight against the Memphis Grizzlies at FedEx Forum.

The Jazz faltered in the final leg of a three-game homestand Wednesday when Joe Johnson made a season-high five three-pointers en route to 28 points, as the Atlanta Hawks dominated Utah, 110-87.

Deron Williams tallied 19 points and nine assists for the Jazz, who won two of three on the residency. Andrei Kirilenko scored 19 points and pulled down six rebounds. Utah was without forward Paul Millsap (hip) and center Mehmet Okur (lower back strain), however.

"I think Atlanta played great tonight," admitted Kirilenko. "They made every shot, especially in the second half. We tried to stop them, but they were good at keeping their composure and executing their offense.

Millsap, who is averaging 17.5 points and 11.1 rebounds, had played in 159 consecutive games before sitting out against Atlanta and remains questionable for tonight's contest. Meanwhile, Okur is expected to miss his fifth straight game.

Utah, which is 11-5 on the road, will finish its quick trek in Houston on Saturday.

The Grizzlies won their second straight game against a tough opponent on Tuesday when Zach Randolph scored 31 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead Memphis past Oklahoma City, 110-105, at FedEx Forum.

Rudy Gay provided 27 points, while Tony Allen, filling in for O.J. Mayo who was sidelined by bronchitis, supplied a season-best 19 points for the Grizzlies, who were coming off a win over the two-time defending champion Lakers in LA and have won four of their last six overall.

"We're getting back to the way we can play," Randolph said. "It's the time to start winning games and get to where we should be."

The news wasn't all good for Memphis, however. The club fined Allen an undisclosed amount for his involvement in an altercation with Mayo during the team's return flight to Memphis. The altercation stemmed from an unpaid debt from a card game and the Grizzlies have since banned gambling on team flights.

Mayo, meanwhile, hopes to return to the lineup tonight.

Utah has taken 13 of the last 14 games in this series, including a pair of games in Salt Lake City this season.
