Pistons down Sixers in OT

Jan 9, 2011 - 5:18 AM Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Austin Daye hit the tying three-point shot in the waning seconds of regulation and sank another one at the start of overtime, helping the Pistons to a 112-109 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.

Tayshaun Prince scored 23 points and Rodney Stuckey chipped in 20 for the Pistons, who snapped a three-game skid. Daye scored 15, while Greg Monroe ended with a career-best 16 points with 13 rebounds in a reserve role.

Elton Brand had 17 points and 14 rebounds for the Sixers, who won their previous two contests. Jrue Holiday added 15 points and 12 assists.

Philadelphia was held scoreless for nearly the first four minutes of overtime, but nearly sent the game to a second extra session. However, Jodie Meeks' desperation three-point try caromed off the rim as time expired.

Brand's short jumper with 12.4 seconds left in regulation extended Philadelphia's lead to 99-96, but after a Charlie Villanueva missed a three for Detroit, the Sixers failed to seal the win. Lou Williams missed a pair from the foul line with 6.2 seconds left, opening the door for Daye's successful three-ball from the left corner.

"It actually wasn't for me to start, and then [Pistons head coach John Kuester] changed it around. I got set, a great screen and I was wide open," Daye said. "As soon as I let it go, I knew it was going in."

Williams missed a long jumper under pressure to force OT, and the Pistons scored the first eight of the extra session before holding on.

"It's a shame too. It would have really put a stamp on an incredible week," Sixers coach Doug Collins said. "Our guys have been through a lot. We played Monday in New Orleans at the end of a trip, two in Philly and then this game tonight back-to-back. It's a shame we couldn't put the finishing touches on it."

Philadelphia had seven players in double figures, led by Evan Turner's 19 points. His three-ball and another one from Meeks made it a 110-109 game with 7.5 seconds left in OT, but Stuckey hit two from the charity stripe to set up the ending.

The Sixers held a 56-52 lead at the half and were in front for most of the third, holding a 74-71 edge moving to the fourth.

Game Notes

This was the first meeting of the season...The Pistons went 3-1 vs. the Sixers last season...Detroit won the rebounding battle, 53-45.
