Nets host Grizzlies at the Rock
Jan 26, 2011 - 4:42 PM (Sports Network) - A pair of teams coming off thrilling last-second wins meet in snowy Newark Wednesday as the New Jersey Nets entertain the Memphis Grizzlies at Prudential Center.Brook Lopez hit a turnaround jumper with 1.4 seconds remaining on Monday, as the Nets handed Cleveland its 17th straight loss, taking a 103-101 decision at The Rock.
Lopez led all scorers with 28 points to go with seven rebounds and Devin Harris ended with 14 points and 10 assists for New Jersey, which recovered from a loss to Dallas on Saturday and has won three of its last four. Kris Humphries chipped in 11 points and 11 boards off the bench for the victors.
"We definitely had to fight. We fought all the way back," Harris said. "Disappointed with kind of the way we started, so we definitely had a little more in us. We just wanted to execute to the point where we gave ourselves a chance."
Rudy Gay, meanwhile, hit the game-winning fade away shot with 0.9 seconds left Monday for Memphis as the Grizzlies edged Toronto, 100-98, at Air Canada Centre.
Gay finished with 21 points and seven rebounds for the Grizzles, who have won three straight, including the first two of a four-game road trip. Zach Randolph scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to set a franchise record with his 11th straight double-double.
Marc Gasol added 17 points and eight boards and O.J. Mayo came off the bench to score 15 points and pull down five boards in the victory.
"I got a good look at it," Gay said of the winning shot. "I just tried to hit a shot. I knew it was a tie game. It was just one shot. If we don't make it we go to overtime and I wanted to make sure there was no time left."
New Jersey, which beat the Grizzlies 101-94 in Memphis on Dec. 21, will be attempting to sweep the home-and-home series tonight. The two teams have alternated season sweeps over the past four seasons with the Nets taking things in 2006-07 and 2008-09 and Memphis earning bragging rights in 2007-08 and 2009-10.
