Jazz try again for first win under Corbin vs. Warriors

Feb 16, 2011 - 4:20 PM (Sports Network) - The Utah Jazz will again shoot for the first win in the post-Jerry Sloan era tonight when they entertain the Golden State Warriors at EnergySolutions Arena.

The Jazz dropped their second straight game since Sloan stepped down on Tuesday when Channing Frye and Steve Nash both converted on crucial trips to the free throw line in the final moments, and the Suns escaped with a 102-101 win in the desert.

Al Jefferson had a game-high 32 points with 10 rebounds and C.J. Miles added 19 points for the Jazz, who have dropped three straight overall. Paul Millsap scored 13 for the Jazz, and both Earl Watson and Deron Williams added 11 points in the loss. Williams dished out a team-high 11 assists as Utah fell to 0-2 with both losses against Phoenix under new coach Tyrone Corbin.

"It is disappointing," Millsap said. "We felt like we got out and we played hard. We played hard. They hit some big shots and Frye had a career night tonight, but other than that we felt like we played pretty good."

Sloan stepped down last Thursday in the middle of his 23rd season with the Jazz, saying during an emotional press conference that it was time to leave the team he had coached since early in the 1988-89 season.

The slumping Jazz have also dropped four straight in Salt Lake City and will be attempting to avoid their first five-game hiccup at home since a franchise- worst 12-game slide from Feb. 15 - March 29, 1982.

The Warriors, meanwhile, finished a brief two-game homestand in perfect fashion on Tuesday when Monta Ellis led a balanced attack with 21 points, as Golden State took down the New Orleans Hornets, 102-89.

Dorell Wright and David Lee each added 16 points for the Warriors, who have won two in a row and six of eight overall. Stephen Curry and Vladimir Radmanovic tallied 14 and 13 points, respectively.

"We've been known to have some great performances then have a letdown right after," Curry said. "So for us to come out and not start the way we wanted to, but we found a way to stay in the game, our defense kept us in it all night. For us to get a win like that is huge for us especially before the All-Star break. We get another chance tomorrow to get a big win where we've struggled up in Utah. I'm looking forward to that opportunity."

Utah has lost two of three to the Warriors this season, with home cooking proving to be the difference in each contest. Overall, the Jazz have taken eight of the last nine meetings between the two teams in Salt Lake City.
