Rockets, Jazz tangle in Space City
Mar 20, 2011 - 3:04 PM (Sports Network) - The Houston Rockets will continue a six-game homestand tonight versus the Utah Jazz at the Toyota Center. The Rockets are 3-1 on the residency thanks to a three-game winning streak and posted a 93-77 victory over the Boston Celtics on Friday. Kevin Martin led the way with 25 points and Kyle Lowry chipped in 20 and nine assists for Houston, which is 20-14 at home and two games off the final postseason spot in the Western Conference.
"We were very active in both ends of the court tonight," said Houston head coach Rick Adelman. "We needed a win like this and I'll take a win against a team like this any day."
Patrick Patterson contributed 18 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks while Chuck Hayes posted 11 points and 11 rebounds in the win. The Rockets will also host Golden State in Space City.
Rockets forward Luis Scola (knee) is questionable for Sunday.
The Jazz will begin a three-game road trip tonight against the Rockets, Grizzlies and Thunder, and are 16-18 as the visitor this season.
Utah has won two straight since a two-game slide and recorded a 119-104 win over Minnesota on Wednesday, as C.J. Miles scored a career-high 40 points and Al Jefferson posted 26 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks as the Jazz won back-to-back games for the first time under new head coach Ty Corbin.
Andrei Kirilenko added 15 points, six assists and six rebounds for Utah, which improved to 5-10 since the departure of Jerry Sloan.
"I just tried to come out here aggressively, um, and I kinda got going, and at the end of the first, he took Al [Jefferson] out, and he gave me a couple more minutes and I had to be aggressive in that second group," Miles said. "Then from there, just trying to stay in the game."
The Jazz are also fighting for a playoff spot and sit 1 1/2 games off the eighth and final playoff slot in the West. In injury news, guard Devin Harris (hamstring) and forward Paul Millsap (knee) are both probable for Sunday.
The 2010-11 season series between the Jazz and Rockets is tied at a game apiece, with each team prevailing on the road. These two teams have split the previous 10 meetings in this series.
